Want Your Silvertip by Thanksgiving? Here’s when to Order.

Want Your Silvertip by Thanksgiving? Here’s when to Order.

For those of us who start decorating early and like to put up the tree before Thanksgiving you will need to order your tree early if you want your tree to arrive by Thanksgiving.

Below is a map from UPS with estimated shipping times:

The transit days listed on the map refer to business days. We figure it is best to add at least one-two days on to the estimate. So in California it may take about 2-3 days for your tree to arrive (barring any delays with UPS). For New York if we ship your tree on Monday it will most likely arrive on the following Monday. However, in some cases, trees have arrived earlier on a Saturday. In most cases, how fast your tree arrives depends on how busy UPS is and what the weather is like. Below is another graphic showing estimated transit times.

So when should you order your tree to have it arrive by Thanksgiving? If your state is dark orange on the Eastern part of the US (on the map above) we recommend having your tree shipped on November 12-14. If you are located in a red area (see map above) then we recommend having your tree shipped on Nov 14-16. For the light green areas we recommend Nov 15-16. For everyone else Nov 16. California can probably get away with Nov 19 but you’ll be pushing your luck. UPS gets very busy Thanksgiving week and will typically see delays.

Your Choice Virtual Tree Lot

Your Choice Virtual Tree Lot

Your Choice Virtual Tree Lot

The Your Choice virtual tree lot is the newest addition to our online ordering experience. Since we started shipping Silvertips in 2009 we have hand picked nearly every tree to be shipped. Over the years we have entertained the idea of adding a virtual tree lot where you can choose your tree. However, due to logistical and technical constraints we were unable to bring the idea to reality. That is until now.

You Choose It – We Ship It

Every tree is photographed to show its unique features so the tree you choose is the one you get. Once you’ve made your choice, your tree will ship on the next available shipping date. You will be able to request a desired ship date from several options during the checkout process. We will do our best to ship your tree on the date you choose but if we are unable to do so (for logistical reasons) it will ship on the next available date.

Trees Added Daily

During the harvest, trees are cut and processed in batches. Once a tree is processed (photo, database entry and published online) it will become available for selection. Once a week on Thursday, we will roll out a new batch of trees to the virtual tree lot. We will also be adding new trees daily. So you don’t have to wait until Thursday to check and see if there are new trees available to choose from.

Weather is always a factor in our daily operations. Storms can come early and produce more snow/precipitation than is expected. Since our tree farm is so remote we can incur delays during harvest. For instance we have seen major storms dump two-three feet of snow overnight. Storms like this can limit our access the tree farm for several days and sometimes indefinitely for the season. Snow storms can cause shipping delays locally and across the country. We do our best to avoid and mitigate weather delays and that sometimes means altering our schedule. So keep that in mind when viewing the calendar below. Everything on it is subject to change due to weather.

While this calendar is subject to change it can give you an idea about events, harvesting and shipping. This is our timeline for the current Silvertip tree season.

Large Silvertip Red Fir Branches – 5 Decorating Ideas

Large Silvertip Red Fir Branches – 5 Decorating Ideas

I love the large silvertip red fir branches. They have the signature silver bark are often peppered with the scars of needles long lost. They make an excellent accent indoor and outdoor. I’d like to share five of my favorites ways to decorate using large silvertip red fir branches. I’ve borrowed a few ideas  along the way and have had plenty of inspiration from the forest and our native mountain culture.

Rustic Pale

Take several branches of varying lengths (between 3-4 ft) and place them in a rusted pale. Arrange them in way that appears random as if in nature. Add a few natural accents to the arrangement. I love to add several large sugar pine cones and a few western white pine cones. This piece is best displayed outdoors near an entryway. It will catch the eye and pull you in. Welcome home.

The Bundle of Sticks

This next idea is perfect for the fireplace. Take four large silvertip red fir banches and cut the individual pieces into thirds (12-16″ long pieces).  Bundle the sticks together and using a manila rope, tie the ends. You can alternatively using a single length of rope and just tie off the middle of the bundle. Either way gives the appearance of a bundle of firewood gathered from the forest.

Lay a single large red fir branch or multiple on your mantel. Add accents like pine cones, moss, minerals and fresh greens to give your mantel a natural mountain look. Simple!

Even simpler is to take several large silvertip red fir banches and place them upright against a wall. Add accents around the base or keep things minimal. This is perfect for breaking up an open wall and giving it a focal point.

Deck of Logs

Make a miniature deck of logs by cutting the large silvertip red fir banches into thirds. Stack them neatly on a tabletop as an accent or part of centerpiece. This also looks great next to the fireplace and next to an entryway.

Large silvertip red fir branches are great for holiday decor or for a year round accent.
