- Unwrap your tree immediately upon arrival and do not leave in direct sunlight.
- Shake out any loose needles.
- Give the trunk of your tree a fresh cut of — 1-2 inches.
- After giving your tree a fresh cut, submerge the trunk in water. This is done to ensure the tree doesn’t close up and will drink the water when placed into a tree stand.
- Keep your tree thoroughly hydrated at all times. This is especially true during the first few days after a fresh cut. Some trees can absorb three quarts of water in a day, if not more. Do not let the bowl of your tree stand go dry. Your tree may close up and not absorb water if left in a dry bowl for too long.
- Keep your tree away from heat sources. This may accelerate drying.
- Keep your tree away from open flames.
